In the Creche, Nursery, Meithrin and Out of School Academy, the children have many amazing experiences to develop a true sense of ‘cynefin’/’belonging’ for Wales.
This sense of ‘cynefin’ is developed in the following ways.
Welsh forms part of everyday life, with the Welsh flag, signs and posters displayed in the creche, nursery, Out of School Academy and of course in our Meithrin. The children also receive an excellent introduction to the Welsh language and culture through singing Welsh songs and rhymes, reading stories in the Welsh language and having access to a large selection of Welsh storybooks in our book corners. The children are also encouraged to learn and use every day Welsh phrases for everyday living and vocabulary related to colours numbers and shapes, etc. Non-Welsh speaking staff use basic Welsh phrases throughout the day and encourage the children to respond in Welsh, all of which prepares them for when they go into full time education. Welsh speaking staff at the Meithrin, totally immerse the children in the Welsh language and culture.
The children also mark traditional Welsh celebrations, including St Dwynwen’s Day and St David’s Day, by dressing up in Welsh costume, singing Welsh songs and learning Welsh poems.
All the above, is an excellent introduction to the Welsh language and culture, for all children who attend Toadhall Montessori Nurseries, Meithrin and Out of School Academy.
We are currently developing the Welsh Offer across all our settings. For those parents who are Welsh speaking and choose to send their child/ren to our Meithrin, we will be providing all our documentation and website information, in Welsh. We are proud to have gained the Welsh Promise at Bronze and Silver level.
